In my view most of the Financial Companies are or may be staying away from cloud because they would not be trusting so much sensative data to third party providers or even if they are using the data, they may not share this information with their customers ( no pun intended to all you financial folks out there), so that the customers do not get paniky.
Maybe how financial companies can benifit form clouds is having private clouds and reduce total cost inside the organizations by porting most of their applications to this private cloud, rather than going for third party clouds. However I am skeptical of it myself since third party clouds provides IAAS, PAAS, so would it be really cost savings?
Any Joyent/AWS/Google/MS Cloud Folks there who can comment on the level of security you would provide and what measures to have to protect customer data?

Raj

I know of Citibank buying some 40K Salesforce.com licenses in early 2008. And some other microfinance companies.

Other than Salesforce.com, email from google/microsoft and storage
from amazon could be the next logical step for financial industry
before they start building/mature cloud aware and pure play cloud
applications... I also like microsoft's approach of onpremise
application that will scale out into microsoft's cloud data center...
gives customers option to get their feet wet on ompremise cloud
first.
