Re: Cloud Computing & Venture Capital

Reuven, Congratulations on being a successful bootstrapper. Lots of folks wish they had your problem!

You've created the perfect job for yourself, if that's what you want then leave the VCs alone. If you want to grow the company rapidly with the intent of cashing out 2-3 years down the road then take the VC money NOW! (you can always bootstrap another company later.)

Consider where you are in life - single, no assets or married, kids, house? Do you have a responsibility to other people or just to yourself (and your ego?) If you're on your own then why change things?

However, understand that nothing stays the same. The companies that take VC money now will be growing. Some of them will be able to execute and be sucessful and that could endanger your company down the road. The other route you could take is to be aquired by one of those companies but that would effectvly end you current situation too.

You have a great problem! But it is a problem nontheless...

Ray

Subject: Cloud Computing & Venture Capital

In my blog post this morning I discussed my entrepreneurs dilemma of
whether or not to take venture capital.

Dealing with unsolicited venture capital inquires is quickly becoming
my number one task. I'm getting between 5-10 emails or phone calls
from VC's and private equity firms on a weekly basis. Is this a sign
that the market is about to explode with new competitors or is it a
sign that 4+ years of work in the cloud computing is starting to pay
off? Are others in the cloud computing space having similar
experiences?

I'd love to hear your experiences, good and bad.
