[ Cloud Computing ] Re: New Google App Engine details, getting closer to paid usage

I was expected that they'd do that. Today we have folks setting up loads of those free accounts and combining all the gmail storage, for instance, to map those gdisks/space on their local drives. Eventually paid usage will come, especially now where "all-things-free-madness" is not anymore interesting. They've may have reached (I hope for them), the inflection point to go after the SMBs and Enterprise, realizing that people DO like to pay.

They're taking a AdWords-like approach where you can set total daily spend on a per app-basis, and break that up between different resources (disk, CPU, bandwidth) so your costs don't get out of control. I'd say this means they're getting closer to removing the free quota limits and opening it up for paid usage. That may be the main issue holding people back from using GAE for more real-world apps. That and the whole python-only thing. Thoughts?
