Could be as simple as a more favorable fish to pond size ratio.
Amazon will need to be serious though to compete with MSFT for hosting .net infrastructure. I got to imagine that msft’s full offering at some point will feature some impressive end2end integration. It’s what they do really right.

One of the two is NOT a brainiac...

Subject: [ Cloud Computing ] MSFT dude to AWS? Why?
Just saw this.
James Hamilton, the guy from Microsoft that was working on their
advanced data center designs (and showed the spiffy container
trailer-park DC video) has jumped to Amazon.

Amazon must be serious about this to pull him away from some pretty
exciting work. However, if you believe the report mentioned by Larry
Dignan at ZD Net, S3 revenue is peanuts at only $2.1M Q3 '08, with total
AWS revenue only growing to $50M in '12.

So, my question is: What is a DC brainiac like Hamilton doing at a
company that's projected to only do $50M (in AWS biz) in four years?
Rackspace/ServerBeach/GoGrid/Mosso/etc./etc./etc. could do that without
breaking a sweat with their current generation DCs.
Something doesn't add up.
